Proverbs 4:23Keep vigilant watch over your heart; that’s where life starts.

James 3:6And the tongue is a fire. The tongue is placed among our members as a world of iniquity; it stains the whole body, sets on fire the cycle of nature,  and is itself set on fire by hell.

Matthew 15:18But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.

Don Imus’ moral and ethical compass are guided by self promotion, pride, finances, ego and heart felt views of other people that are derogatory and demeaning.  His comments are inexcusable and should reap the condemnation anyone who is a disciple of Jesus Christ.   Our prayer should be that he would experience healing for his broken heart and jaded perspective of life.  Without a change of heart the words will continue even if they are not heard “on the air”.

MSNBC did the right thing in canceling the simulcast of the Imus show.American Express, Proctor and Gamble, Staples, Sprint Nextel and General Motors did the right thing in removing their advertisements from his show.  The question will be whether CBS will cancel the show.  According the CBS Diversity web site, “This (diversity) is not a campaign, but rather a fundamental way of doing business at CBS, and we continue to be steadfast in our goal to become more diverse and more representative of the public we serve.”

Don Imus will ultimately not be judged by anyone on earth but by God. While he is here on earth Mr. Imus is still accountable for his actions to the public that he serves.  If there is to be righteous moral indignation it should begin with the church.

Psalm 106:3 Blessed are they who maintain justice, who constantly do what is right.

The church should be the embodiment of people of God who maintain  and insist on justice.
